The Italian kitchen is always open

Rolling Pin

In Italy, at any time of the day when you visit somebody’s home, they will feed you.

It doesn’t matter if your visit was planned ahead of time or if you were just stopping by unannounced, food will be part of your visit. As an Italian, it is a part of my heritage and culture to take care of people with food. This is were my passion for nutrition was born. My interest in nutrition has many facets – from its physical, psychological, and social roles in our lives, to its therapeutic effects as well.

Hi, I’m Elena

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

An RDN is a health care professional who has completed a degree and a supervised practice program (1.200 hours) accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetics Registration, and achieved continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration.

No superpowers, just specialized knowledge and skills.

To put it in a nutshell…

1

“Work hard, play hard.”

This quote suits me. I have always have been a doer but to be happy. I must make no distinction between my work and my passion. To me. Food is fun and beautiful, but it’s also curious and experimental. I like to dig deep into what I eat and to know everything about its chemistry. I also like to play with food and try new flavors and recipes.

I believe in science.

Nutrition is a captivating but debatable domain. It is a popular topic where everybody claims to be an expert — but nutrition is a complicated science. During my studies and practices, I learned to distinguish between strong and weak researches and to avoid misinformation from questionable sources. This website will provide evidence-based and reliable nutrition information in a simple, unbiased, and understandable language.

3

I am a plant-based dietitian.

A plant-based diet is the foundation of preventive nutrition — a branch of nutrition that focuses on preventing and reducing diseases. A plant-based diet does not imply you are vegetarian or vegan, it means most of your food choices are plant-based.

I am a non-diet dietitian.

This isn’t to say that I’m against Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and therapeutic diets. What it does mean is that I am against chronic dieting and a diet culture that harms people. Weight is not an indicator of health or longevity. There is no single parameter that can identify if you are healthy or not.

5

I trust in the greater good.

It took me years to find my true sense of purpose. It may seem like a slogan, but I believe that every act of giving counts. My work and this website are my way to give back. This is my way to live a meaningful life.
